With this trimmer, you have a choice of 39 precision length settings in 0.5 mm increments which makes this beard trimmer suitable for stubble, short and long beards. TOP-13 with the best beard trimmers 2023
All the beard trimmers you see in our selection are:
- Suitable for beard hair: convenient if you have a beard
- Even trimming in one stroke: this is the best way to trim. You trim with the direction of growth instead of a rotating head.
- Cordless trimmers: a cord is very inconvenient, so we don’t recommend it.
- Excellent quality: we do our best to showcase only the very best beard trimmers.
A stubble is about 0 – 5 mm long. You then need a precision trimmer with which you can work accurately. All the trimmers we recommend below are also suitable for a long or full beard should you change your mind in the future.
I am looking for a beard trimmer for:
Find the trimmer that suits you best:
Buying the best beard trimmer, what do you look for?
The Beardman hopes the above selection of beard trimmers will make your choice easier. Is the perfect beard trimmer not among them for you? In that case, we have some buying tips you should look out for to find the right beard trimmer.
Trim length: which trimmer suits your beard?
Naturally, you want to buy a beard trimmer that allows you to trim your beard to your desired length. So you need a beard trimmer that can meet your desired trim length. Thinking of growing a full beard in the future? Then keep this in mind when choosing the right beard trimmer.
Beard lengths:
- 0.1 mm to 5 mm for stubble
- 5 mm to 10 mm for a short beard
- 10 mm to 40+ mm for a long beard
Way of length setting
There are three ways to set the desired trim length:
- With different attachment combs: fine if you’re looking for an inexpensive beard trimmer, but you do sacrifice convenience. For instance, you have to change the attachment comb, clean it and lose it easily.
- Via mechanical with a dial: this works best. You work with a fixed attachment comb and adjust the trim length via a dial.
- Via mechanical with buttons: the mechanical works the same, but you adjust the trim length via push buttons instead of a dial.
Minimum spacer length
Finally, we have the length between metal blades. What can you choose from and which is best for your type of beard?
- Minimal intermediate steps: the space between the stainless steel blades is zero. This is also known as a precision trimmer; ideal when you want to create an overflow in your beard and add detail to your beard.
- Medium intermediate steps: the space between the stainless steel blades is slightly wider which is especially good for shorter beards.
- Large intervals: you use a beard trimmer with lots of space between the metal blades when you want to trim your beard to one length. Perfect for an even result.
Your budget & value for money
A beard trimmer doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive to get a good one. A cheap beard trimmer can also be an excellent one. Looking for the beard trimmer with the best price-quality ratio? Then we recommend the Philips brand, for example the Philips 5000 series BT5200/16 which is the best buy from our test.
HHowever, with cheaper beard trimmers, you (often) have to compromise on convenience. For instance, the following features are often missing:
- Use in the shower
- Trim length adjustment via mechanical (without fixed attachment combs)
- No self-sharpening blades
- No quick-charge function
Corded or rechargeable?
Halfway through your trimming session, the trimmer suddenly stops? There’s nothing more annoying than that. A cord is not really practical: often the cord length is too short, the cord is in the way and it is more difficult to store the beard trimmer. This doesn’t make the choice any easier: will it be a corded or rechargeable beard trimmer? We leave the choice to you.
The best-selling beard trimmers are rechargeable with a quick-charge function and a long-lasting battery. With my favorite trimmer, I sometimes do more than a month before I have to hang it on the charger again.
DID YOU
KNOW
THAT.
There are still battery-operated beard trimmers for sale. Nice and old-fashioned, but handy when you go camping. This is our favourite beard trimmer with rechargeable batteries
Trim in the shower?
Do you like to trim in the shower? Understandably so, as it prevents a mess at the sink as all loose hairs are discharged through the shower drain. Trimming a stubble works fine in the shower, but for a full or long beard it is better to trim it when the beard hairs are dry.
Either way, the Philips 5000 series BT5515/15 can be used in the shower.
Rinsing the trimmer
A waterproof housing is not only desirable for men who want to trim in the shower, but is also convenient for cleaning your trimmer. You can then rinse the beard trimmer under the tap and get rid of all loose hair in one go.
Suction system for the loose hairs?
The latest beard trimmers feature a suction system that sucks up the loose hairs during trimming. Instead of flying in all directions, the beard hairs fall neatly into the collection tray, which you can rinse under the tap afterwards. This saves time. So you don’t have to clean up all the loose beard hairs afterwards.
Keep in mind that an extraction system with collection tray is unable to suck up all the beard hairs. This is why The Beardmen does not necessarily consider a suction system to be necessary. Another solution is a beard apron. You hang this under your neck during beard trimming and it catches all the hairs for you.
Additional functionalities
- LED display: this allows you to see the set trim length at a glance. An LED display is not necessarily necessary, but it does look stylish and makes it a bit easier to use.
- Self-sharpening blades: the sharp blades maintain themselves. So you don’t have to worry about this and you don’t have to replace the metal blades.
- Beard trimmer and hair trimmer in one: looking for a multifunctional beard trimmer? There are beard trimmers that can also trim your head hair or body hair.
Buying a beard trimmer: the buying process
We can divide the buying process into a number of steps:
- Determine your budget
- Determine your desired beard length for now and in the future
- Determine which features are important to you
- Choose a beard trimmer that meets these requirements
- Compare prices
Conclusion: which trimmer to choose?
In my opinion, the very best beard trimmer, even if you have heavy beard growth, is the Wahl Cordless Detailer Li Trimmer T-Wide. It may be quite pricey, but you get quality in return. This trimmer is suitable for all types of beards, you can trim very precisely with it and it is also cordless for over an hour and a half.
If your budget is not too big, the Philips beard trimmers from the 5000 series are a good alternative. The BT5515/15 is the best-selling beard trimmer, while the BT5200/16 is the trimmer with the best value for money, in our opinion.
If you go for pure luxury, check out the Wellshave and Gruttz beard trimmers. Very complete sets with multiple shaving heads and attachment combs.
But of course, the ideal beard trimmer for you is the device that suits your situation: what kind of beard you have, how you want to style it, how big your budget is, et cetera. Read the tips above and check out the Top 10, and you’re sure to arrive at the best choice.

A beard trimmer is very easy to use. You place the right attachment cap on the trimmer (depending on the desired length) and pull the trimmer down from the top. Move along in the direction of beard growth and don’t press the device too hard against your cheeks to avoid irritation.
A trimmer is meant for trimming your beard, moustache and sideburns while clippers are exclusively for the hair on your head and neck.
